Welcome to our website, we are so glad you stopped to visit!
VIA Honeybees started as a small hobby for a wife and husband to do together! Tom and I (Melissa) were wanting only 2 or 3 hives in our backyard. It quickly grew from 3 hives to 8, then 8 to 16, the third year 16- 50. Our nice backyard hobby quickly became a fulltime hobby! We now maintain just over 100 hives throughout the Franklin and Jefferson County area at 6 separate apiaries.
We do our best to maintain strong healthy colonies. We attend several beekeeping conferences throughout the year, being active members with The Eastern Missouri Beekeepers Association, as well as actively working toward our Master Beekeeping Certification, and attending multiple beekeeping conferences throughout the year.
We both love interacting with the community and educating everyone about the importance of honeybees to anyone who will listen! We often give presentations at local schools, assisted living facilities, and other local events.
People often ask us what VIA stands for. It actually has a double meaning. Via means from the or by the, so VIA Honeybees From the Honeybees. It is also the first initial of each of our children: Vanessa, Isaac, & Andrew!
